The proud history of our marching band lives on in this Historical Video Series produced by the UofM Band Alumni Chapter! Using hundreds of 16mm films and Betamax videotapes, we've chronicled 30 years of The Mighty Sound of the South, from 1963 to 1992, in one comprehensive DVD set.

You'll see many of the trademarks of the 1960s and early 1970s in Volume I - blocks and straight-lines, high-step marching, picture drill, and attention-getting drum majors. Notable highlights include the 1964 last game at Crump Stadium, a 1966 halftime show with Doc Severinson, and the 1972 "election" show where the band spells out GEORGE and NIXON.

In Volume II, you'll watch the band move through the 70s and early 80s. This era features the introduction of arcs and more symmetry, expanded use of the guard and more sophisticated flag work. Some highlights from this era include the Candyman production of 1974 (with majorettes costumed as candy canes), a rousing edition of Sousa Spectacular in the Superdome in 1976, and spine-tingling trumpets in Carmina Burana at Neyland Stadium in 1982.

Volume III takes us into the modern era of The Mighty Sound of the South. In shows from the 1980s and early 1990s, you'll see the emergence of free-form drill and drum corps-style shows. Watch the band put on a circus at Vanderbilt Stadium in 1983. Listen to a shocking rendition of 1812 Overture in the Liberty Bowl in 1988. And watch a patriotic performance of Armed Forces Salute in Orlando in 1990.
